One Man’s Qwest

Posted by Shannon on May 27th, 2007

Starbucks LogoIt begs to wonder why a man would go on a quest to drink coffee at every Starbucks shop in the world when he doesn’t even like Starbucks or coffee. A Houston native who goes by the name “Winter” is on a quest to drink at least four ounces of coffee at every one of the 7,200 Starbucks shops on his list.

Winter says he’s not really a big fan of Starbucks, or even coffee. But two years ago, while a documentary was being made about his trek, he said he enjoyed how it kept him on the road. Advertising on his Web site, StarbucksEverywhere.net, helps pay the costs.

Coffee Soda

Posted by Shannon on May 27th, 2007

Coffee Soda

An interesting mix of rich creaminess and bubbly fizz. Kind of like a typical ice cream float, but with a few added touches of coffee and cream.

INGREDIENTS:

  • 3 cups strong coffee, chilled
  • 1 cup half & half
  • 4 scoops coffee ice cream
  • 3/4 cup club soda
  • 1 tbs sugar
  • Whipped cream

PREPARATION:
Mix coffee, sugar and half & half. Fill 4 tall glasses about halfway. Add 1 scoop of ice cream to each, then fill up with soda. Top with whipped cream.
Serves 4

Lower Gout in Coffee Drinkers

Posted by Shannon on May 27th, 2007

Coffee BeansNot only does coffee protect against radiation, type 2 diabetes, and cancer, studies have now shown that coffee lowers the risk of gout.

A team at the University of British Columbia found that blood uric acid levels (which are linked to gout) were lower in people who drank coffee regularly. The researchers found that people who drink more coffee (four or more) a day were more likely to have lower uric acid levels in their blood than those who drank one or fewer.

Research has also shown that caffeine is not the active ingredient as there was no measurable benefit to those who drink 4 or more cups of tea per day.
