If there is such a person as a nut-aholic, that’s me! I love nuts and they’re nutritious, too. In the past, glazed nuts have always been special occasion treats, bought in small jars or cellophane bags and doled out sparingly. No more!

The Back to Basics Nut Roaster easily glazes all my favorites – almonds, pecans, walnuts, cashews in a quick ten minutes on top of the stove. The roaster itself looks a bit like a deep fry pan with a mixing handle in the center. All I do is put the roaster on our electric cook top over medium high and then add nuts, glaze mixture (more about that later) and specified amount of water to pan. Then, simply rotate the mixing handle until the moisture is gone. I pour the nuts onto a non-stick cookie sheet to cool. If any stick together they’re easily separated with a wooden spoon while they’re hot.

Now for the promised glaze info: We really like the Back To Basics Toffee and Cinnamon glazes. For either of these we use 2 cups nuts, 3/4 Cup of glaze and 3 Tablespoons of water. Delish!

This past holiday season we gave neighbors and friends jars of glazed nuts for which we received thanks and compliments galore. We also try to keep some on hand in an air tight container for drop-in guests but, to be honest, more often then not they’re for us.

    Enjoy!

Just got this for Christmas and it is wonderful. It it very easy to use and didn’t take long for the finished product. The kids really liked stirring and they felt like they had really helped make something special. I used the toffee glaze with some pecans and they tasted fantastic! Everyone loved them and I can’t wait to make more!

For long term storage, I remove the paddle, top and side handles, so the Nut Roaster takes less space. The pan is much heavier than my Whirley Pop Popcorn Maker, the paddle is much more sturdy, and I’m certainly glad I didn’t talk myself into thinking I could use the Whirley Pop instead of this for glazing nuts. I’ve deducted a star in my review rating because this is not really a nut roaster, it’s a nut glazer for sugary coated nuts. For more savory nuts, it’s recommended that the nuts and other ingredients be mixed in this pot and then they are baked in a baking pan in the oven. I personally wouldn’t bother using this pan if I’m going to bake the nuts in the oven — don’t need to clean another pot. I’ve not used the premade glazes, but prefer to do my own with organic sugar and high quality spices and extracts. My favorite so far was a sweet and spicy pecan batch, the recipe from the instruction manual to which I added ground ginger and black pepper. Yum. I’ve also found that spreading the nuts unto a Silicone Solutions 12 x 16 Inch Baking Sheets or Silpat lined cookie sheet or counter top makes for simple cleanup. As the warning in the manual states, don’t be tempted to grab a nut to quickly because they are H-O-T!! Be patient and you’ll be rewarded with the first cooled taste.

Liked the pan but the handle broke off after 3 times using. No way to fix handle either.

This nut roaster is easy to use. The instructions are pretty clear and the recipes are so good. The only problem I had was the directions don’t say whether or not to use nuts that are raw or are already roasted. I know this is a “nut roaster”, but it’s used mainly to glaze, etc. I used both and felt the roasted nuts were better.
